Drunk Driver Arrested After Injuring Pedestrians During Police Chase in Fort Worth

Fort Worth police released dash camera video of a chase involving an accused drunken driver. A suspected drunk driver is now in police custody after allegedly running over two pedestrians in Fort Worth on Saturday night. The incident occurred after the driver fled from a traffic stop. The accused, 29-year-old Andrew Michael Guerra, is facing multiple charges for causing the accident.

According to Fort Worth Police, officers initially spotted a gray pickup truck with no headlights driving the wrong way down a one-way street around 10 p.m. The truck then reversed and nearly collided with a marked police unit before driving up onto a curb. Officers could hear the passenger urging the driver to stop.

Due to the suspect’s erratic driving, officers attempted to pull him over for suspected drunk driving. However, Guerra accelerated and drove rapidly through a parking lot, raising concerns about his intoxication and the potential danger he posed to the public in a busy entertainment district. The truck struck several curbs and narrowly avoided colliding with other vehicles.

At one point, Guerra cut in front of oncoming traffic and jumped a curb into a bank parking lot, causing significant damage to the front left wheel. Despite the disabled vehicle, he continued to flee from officers at high speed toward a densely populated area. The chase ended when Guerra’s truck collided with a pole, a stopped car, and two pedestrians at an intersection.

Guerra had to be extracted from the vehicle by police. Although they suspected he was intoxicated, he refused to undergo a field sobriety test. The passenger in Guerra’s truck cooperated with the investigation and claimed he tried to exit the vehicle during the chase but was prevented from doing so by Guerra.

The two pedestrians struck in the intersection were transported to a local hospital with serious injuries. Fort Worth Police expressed sympathy for the victims and bystanders who witnessed the incident, emphasizing the impact of such reckless actions on innocent people. They also highlighted the desire for a safe and enjoyable environment in the city.

Guerra has been charged with intoxication, assault with a vehicle, evading arrest with a vehicle causing serious bodily injury, and unlawful restraint. He is currently held in the Tarrant County Jail on a $95,000 bond.

In conclusion, the incident involving a suspected drunk driver fleeing from police and injuring pedestrians in Fort Worth has resulted in the arrest of Andrew Michael Guerra. The authorities have pressed multiple charges against Guerra, and the injured victims are receiving medical attention.
