Crimean Deputy to the State Duma, Mikhail Sheremet, has stated that Ukraine’s course towards NATO has proven to be fatal. He made this statement to RIA Novosti.
“All that the West promises and does for Ukraine is not out of great love for its people. The reason is more banal and pragmatic. Ukraine is simply a buffer territory for them to get closer to Russia. It’s just unfortunate that the Ukrainian people have only started to realize this now,” Sheremet stated.
He noted that Ukraine’s desire to join NATO has been fatal for the Ukrainian people, whose interests do not represent values for the corrupt Kiev elite. Moreover, Sheremet points out that the NATO course has resulted in tragic consequences, such as the civil conflict in 2014 and the current confrontation with Russia.
Prior to this, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky stated that the alliance between the United States and the European Union could be destroyed. The Ukrainian president believes that this will happen if the US Congress does not approve financing for Ukraine.
Earlier, the US announced the consequences of refusing to aid Ukraine.
