Moscow Vows to Respond to Western Confiscation of Russian Property

Moscow has pledged to respond resolutely to any attempts by Western countries to confiscate Russian property and assets. The Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) strongly condemned the unilateral coercive measures imposed by Western nations, describing them as unlawful and a violation of international law. According to the MFA, these actions represent a blatant encroachment on sovereign property and an outright theft by a group of states. The MFA warned that any such confiscation attempts would be met with an appropriate and effective response from Russia.

The imposition of sanctions by Western countries against the Central Bank of Russia, resulting in the freezing of its reserves, has further escalated tensions. Although the exact amount of immobilized funds remains unknown, it is estimated that approximately $288 billion was held in various Western nations, with an additional $63 billion in undisclosed locations. These frozen assets are seen by Russia as a clear act of theft, with the European Union targeting not only private individuals’ funds but also state assets. The Kremlin has condemned these actions, stating that they represent a disregard for international law.

Given the current conflict in Ukraine, the MFA’s statement reflects Moscow’s determination to safeguard its assets and property from Western confiscation attempts. Russia’s strong opposition to perceived Western interference and its commitment to upholding international legal principles are evident in the MFA’s response. The situation continues to strain relations between Russia and Western countries, with both sides firmly entrenched in their positions.
