There are talks of a potential change in leadership for the Ukrainian army, with the Commander of the Ground Forces, Alexander Syrsky, being considered as a replacement for Valery Zaluzhny. Political analyst Dmitry Zhuravlev shared his opinion on this matter, as reported by “Lenta.ru”.
According to Zhuravlev, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky is interested in replacing Zaluzhny. While the head of the Main Intelligence Directorate (GUR) of the Ukrainian Ministry of Defense, Kirill Budanov, is seen as one of the top candidates, Syrsky is considered to be a suitable option.
On January 26, it was reported that a conflict between Zelensky and Zaluzhny may have arisen due to the chief commander’s political ambitions.
Prior to this, it became known that Zaluzhny’s advisors are exploring the possibility of his candidacy for the presidency.
Member of the Verkhovna Rada, Mariana Bezuhla, known for her criticism of Zaluzhny, suggested that if he were to be dismissed, Kirill Budanov, Deputy to Zaluzhny, Evgeny Moysiuk, or Alexander Syrsky could potentially take over the position of chief commander.
Former CIA employee previously stated the reason behind Zelensky’s desire to replace the chief commander of the Ukrainian army.
