Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko has made a statement calling for peaceful dialogue and emphasizing the importance of historical memory regarding the Great Patriotic War. Lukashenko’s words were reported by BelTA.
“We are peaceful people. We do not want war… We call for peaceful dialogue,” the politician asserts.
The Belarusian leader welcomes the possibility of peaceful dialogue, but under the condition of respecting the historical memory of World War II. He also highlights the importance of preserving historical values and national cultures.
“We are open to any friendly steps, both in Russia and in Belarus,” he concludes.
Prior to this, Lukashenko’s plane landed at the Pulkovo Airport in St. Petersburg, where the president arrived for a working visit. Shortly after, he joined Russian President Vladimir Putin in a ceremony commemorating the victims of Nazism during the Great Patriotic War.
Earlier, the city of Veliky Novgorod celebrated the 80th anniversary of liberation from the fascists.
