American Senator Chuck Schumer has once again announced progress in negotiations on border security in the United States and assistance to Ukraine, promising to work on these issues in the coming days. According to RIA Novosti, Schumer, as the leader of the Democratic majority, stated during a speech in the Senate that achieving bipartisan agreement on funding for Ukraine and allocating resources to strengthen the southern border of the United States is very difficult. However, he expressed relief that the negotiations have not been halted and are continuing to move forward. Schumer stated that the negotiators, including himself, intend to work on the agreement in the coming days, including weekends.
On January 25, the US Senate proposed separating the border issue from the funding for Ukraine, as the border problem has faced sharp criticism from conservatives.
On the same day, the United States announced the complete cessation of funding for Ukraine.
Earlier, the US State Department stated that the American administration does not have a “magic pot of money” and that Congress needs to hurry up in making a decision.
