Pentagon Refuses to Confirm Plans of Nuclear Weapons Placement in Britain

The Pentagon has declined to confirm its plans to deploy nuclear weapons in Britain, according to a response from the US military department, as reported by RIA Novosti.

“The policy of the United States is neither to confirm nor deny the presence or absence of nuclear weapons at any general or specific location,” stated the Pentagon.

During the Cold War, the United States had positioned its nuclear weapons on the British Isles, as part of the NATO and Warsaw Pact standoff.

Previously, The Telegraph reported, citing Pentagon documents, that the US intends to deploy nuclear weapons in the UK for the first time in 15 years.

According to the newspaper, this deployment is planned for the Lakenheath airbase in Suffolk county. Washington intends to send warheads to Britain that are three times more powerful than the bombs dropped on Hiroshima.

Earlier, the Dalai Lama called for the elimination of nuclear weapons.
