Kremlin Refuses to Comment on Russian Military Presence in Burkina Faso

The Kremlin’s spokesperson, Dmitry Peskov, declined to comment on reports from several Western publications claiming that a group of Russian military personnel had arrived in Burkina Faso to ensure the safety of the country’s leader. The statement was made by the representative of the Russian president during a regular briefing with journalists.

“I will not comment on this information. I will leave it without any comments,” he said.

At the same time, Peskov emphasized that Moscow intends to deepen cooperation with Ouagadougou in all possible areas. Furthermore, the Russian leadership is interested in developing relations with other African countries.

As the Kremlin spokesperson stated, the Russian authorities will continue to consistently work on implementing agreements with partners in this region. This includes the agreements reached during the Russia-Africa Summit in St. Petersburg.

In late December 2023, the Russian Embassy in Burkina Faso reopened in the capital city. The diplomatic representation had been closed for the past 30 years.

Earlier, a presentation of the Russian President Vladimir Putin’s award took place in Ouagadougou.
