The Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), Rafael Grossi, has expressed concerns about the current situation surrounding the Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant (ZNPP). In a briefing to the United Nations Security Council, Grossi stated that the situation cannot be considered stable or improving.
Grossi highlighted that while there may be a calm atmosphere at the plant for a week, there is a looming threat from an unidentified unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) targeting the ZNPP. The specifics regarding the origin and intentions of this hypothetical drone were not disclosed by the IAEA Director General.
In response to this situation, Grossi plans to visit Zaporizhzhia, Kyiv, and Russia in the near future. This visit aims to gather more information and assess the overall safety and security measures in place.
Earlier, the IAEA confirmed that a “cold shutdown” regime is currently in effect for one of the reactors at the Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant.
