In a recent development, Republican National Committee (RNC) Chair Ronna McDaniel has expressed her eagerness to bring an end to the GOP nomination race in order to focus on defeating President Biden. This comes as former United Nations Ambassador Nikki Haley’s campaign criticizes the RNC and McDaniel for considering a draft resolution that would declare Donald Trump as the presumptive GOP nominee. The resolution, proposed by RNC committeeman David Bossie, a former Trump campaign official, contradicts Haley’s commitment to continue her campaign into her home state of South Carolina for its upcoming primary.
Haley’s campaign spokeswoman, Olivia Perez-Cubas, dismissed the RNC’s influence, stating, “Who cares what the RNC says? We’ll let millions of Republican voters across the country decide who should be our party’s nominee, not a bunch of Washington insiders.” She further challenged McDaniel to organize a debate in South Carolina and insinuated that Trump may not be able to handle sharing the stage with Haley for 90 minutes. The RNC has not responded to requests for comment on the matter.
As the sole remaining challenger to Trump, Haley faces an uphill battle after Trump’s convincing victories in the Iowa caucuses and New Hampshire primary. Polls also indicate a significant lead for Trump in South Carolina ahead of its primary on February 24. Following Haley’s loss in New Hampshire, McDaniel called on her to drop out of the race, emphasizing the need for the party to rally behind Trump as the eventual nominee. McDaniel stated, “Looking at the math and the path going forward, I don’t see it for Nikki Haley. We need to unite around our eventual nominee, which is going to be Donald Trump, and we need to make sure we beat Joe Biden.”
McDaniel also highlighted the urgency of the upcoming election, emphasizing the need to defeat what she perceives as a detrimental presidency. She criticized Biden for keeping the borders open, allowing fentanyl to pour through, and allowing rampant inflation. McDaniel asserted, “He is hurting the American people, and we need to do everything we can to unite so that we can defeat him.”
