US Strikes Pro-Iranian Militant Groups in Iraq in Response to Attacks

The United States Armed Forces have carried out strikes on three facilities belonging to the pro-Iranian group Kataib Hezbollah in Iraq, in response to a series of attacks by Shiite militias. This statement was made by the Pentagon chief, Lloyd Austin, as reported by RIA Novosti.

“The US forces have conducted necessary and proportionate strikes on three facilities that were used by Kataib Hezbollah and other Iran-affiliated movements in Iraq,” the minister’s statement said.

Austin noted that the strikes were carried out under the orders of United States President Joe Biden.

According to him, the United States’ objective is to protect American interests in the region.

On January 20, the Ain al-Assad airbase in Iraq was targeted with rocket fire. It was reported that over 20 rockets were fired at the facility.

Later, the Pentagon mentioned that several American military personnel may have been injured in the attack.

Previously, an American drone crashed in Iraq.
