In an exclusive interview with ‘Fox & Friends’ co-host Brian Kilmeade, former President Donald Trump discussed his campaign and the ongoing efforts by his opponents to undermine his potential candidacy. Despite their best efforts, opponents of Trump have failed to keep him off the primary ballot in Massachusetts. The Massachusetts State Ballot Law Commission recently dismissed the challenge against Trump, citing a lack of jurisdiction over the matter.
The Republican Party of Massachusetts Chair, Amy Carnevale, hailed the dismissal as a victory for American democracy. She criticized the challenge as an “ill-conceived effort” by career plaintiff lawyers and expressed her support for allowing actual voters to choose their nominee. Carnevale emphasized the importance of trusting the voters’ decision-making process.
Trump’s eligibility to appear on election ballots has been questioned by more than a dozen states, including Massachusetts, following the events of the Capitol riot on January 6, 2021. These challenges are based on the 14th Amendment to the Constitution, which prohibits individuals from holding office if they have engaged in insurrection or rebellion against the country or provided aid to its enemies after taking an oath to defend the Constitution.
In a similar case, the Colorado Supreme Court disqualified Trump from appearing on the state’s ballots in 2024. However, Trump has appealed this ruling to the U.S. Supreme Court, which will ultimately make the final decision. Additionally, Trump has appealed a ruling by Maine’s secretary of state that barred him from the state’s primary ballot. Maine’s Supreme Judicial Court has decided to wait for the U.S. Supreme Court’s decision in the Colorado case before considering the Maine appeal.
The outcome of these legal battles will have significant implications for Trump’s potential run for the Republican presidential nomination in 2024. Despite these challenges, Trump remains a frontrunner for the GOP nomination, garnering support from various Republican lawmakers.
