Father Arrested for Assaulting Daughter After Wrestling Match Loss

A Georgia man, Steven Mathue Slaton, was arrested over the weekend for allegedly punching and slapping his daughter following her loss in a middle school wrestling match. The incident took place at Cherokee Bluff Middle School, located in Commerce, Georgia, about 70 miles northeast of Atlanta. The Hall County Sheriff’s Office took Slaton into custody on Saturday.

According to reports from FOX Atlanta, deputies responded to the school around 2 p.m. after receiving reports of a man physically assaulting a girl. Investigators discovered that Slaton had become angry when his daughter lost her match. He allegedly punched her in the back, slapped her in the face, and even lifted her over his head by her ears.

Fortunately, the child did not sustain any injuries during the incident. It was also revealed that she was not a student in Hall County but had traveled with her family to participate in the youth wrestling event.

Following the arrest, Slaton was charged with first-degree cruelty to children. He posted a bond of $11,200 on Monday.
