Republicans Strategize to Reclaim State Majorities in 2024 Election Amidst Low Popularity of President Biden

Contributor Jason Chaffetz and American radio show host Richard Fowler delve into the latest developments in the 2024 election after former President Trump cancels some weekend rallies. The Republican State Leadership Committee (RSLC) has revealed its objectives for 2024, aiming to defend its state majorities and regain control from Democrats. In a memo obtained by Digital, the RSLC outlined its plans to counter the “onslaught of liberal spending from the far left” and leverage President Biden’s low popularity to achieve their goals.

The RSLC’s memo highlights the success of their Absentee Ballot and Early Voting (AB/EV) program during the recent Virginia state elections. Recognizing the urgency to mobilize low-propensity voters and counter potential Democratic gains, the committee aims to build upon this success. The memo also sheds light on the Democrats’ advantage in newly redrawn maps, which provide their candidates with a D +4.2% edge.

With 85 out of 99 state legislative chambers up for election in 2024, the RLSC’s plan focuses on 33 seats that will determine “control of the nation.” To regain control of 60 state legislative chambers, Republicans need to flip 7 seats across 3 states, while Democrats need to flip 33 seats across 5 states to secure a simple majority. The upcoming presidential race is expected to play a crucial role in statewide races in 2024.

The RLSC has identified Michigan, Minnesota, and Pennsylvania as the states with the greatest opportunity for Republican flips. Additionally, the committee anticipates increased Democratic spending in Arizona, Florida, Georgia, New Hampshire, North Carolina, Ohio, Texas, and Wisconsin, which are key states for the upcoming Senate, congressional, and presidential elections. While state races in Arkansas, Iowa, Indiana, Kansas, Kentucky, and Nebraska will be monitored, they are not expected to significantly impact the top-of-the-ticket races.

The committee also aims to explore opportunities for GOP expansion in Democrat-led states, such as California, Colorado, Illinois, Maine, Nevada, New York, Oregon, and Washington. By chasing every opportunity for growth, Republicans hope to make an impact within these heavily blue states.

The 2024 campaign trail promises to be an intense battle for control of state legislatures, and the RLSC’s strategic plan reflects their determination to reclaim majorities. As the nation awaits the next presidential election, the outcomes of these state races will undoubtedly shape the political landscape.
