Hezbollah, the Shiite movement, has launched an attack on Israeli forces stationed at the Lebanon border. In a statement, Hezbollah announced that its members fired several rockets at the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) in the Zarit area. The statement further noted that the targeted soldiers were intending to carry out aggression on Lebanese territory.
According to Reuters on January 18, a senior Lebanese official reported that Hezbollah leadership rejected the US plan to de-escalate tensions along the Israel-Lebanon border. The article stated that US authorities proposed reducing tension levels by withdrawing troops from the border.
However, the source mentioned that Hezbollah considered Washington’s initiative unrealistic. Nevertheless, he added that the Lebanese movement remains open to diplomacy and is willing to listen to other ideas put forth by the US.
Earlier, the Israeli General Staff assessed the likelihood of a war against Hezbollah.
