Washington, D.C. – Despite the snowy conditions, thousands of pro-life activists gathered in Washington, D.C. on Friday for the annual March for Life. This year’s event marked the second March for Life in post-Roe v. Wade America and saw the participation of individuals from various backgrounds, including religious leaders and high-level government officials. The event was filled with powerful personal testimonies, making it a memorable day for attendees.
The snowy weather did not deter pro-life Americans from making their voices heard. March for Life president Jeanne Mancini expressed her admiration for the large crowds, especially the young people, who turned out despite the challenging conditions. Notable participants included abuse and human trafficking survivor Jean Marie Davis and University of Michigan football coach Jim Harbaugh, who gave a surprise address.
During his speech, House Speaker Mike Johnson, R-La., emphasized the importance of promoting quality healthcare for both women and their unborn children. He highlighted the House’s recent passing of the Pregnant Students Rights Act and criticized the Biden administration’s proposed rule to restrict funding for “pregnancy resource centers.” Johnson argued that these centers provide crucial support to expecting and first-time mothers, and he called for the passage of the Supporting Pregnant and Parenting Women and Families Act to counter the proposed regulation.
Coach Harbaugh, in his unexpected address, commended the attendees for their dedication to the sanctity of life and praised their resilience in braving the snowy weather. His presence added an inspiring touch to the event, resonating with the crowd.
Republican lawmakers also showed their support for the March for Life, with several senators and House members posting videos to express their solidarity. Rep. Jodey Arrington, R-Texas, emphasized the need to create a culture of life throughout the country, not only to uphold the Constitution but also to honor God as the author of life. Sen. Bill Cassidy, R-La., acknowledged the impact of overturning Roe v. Wade and thanked pro-life advocates for their unwavering commitment. Sen. Marsha Blackburn, R-Tenn., extended her gratitude to the Tennesseans participating in the march for their continuous efforts to defend life.
