Centrist Group No Labels Calls for Investigation into Alleged Conspiracy to Hinder Ballot Access

No Labels, a centrist group aiming to launch a potential third-party unity presidential ticket, has urged the Justice Department to investigate potential criminal charges against Democratic-leaning groups and activists who have allegedly conspired to obstruct their efforts to secure ballot access. The organization claims that certain activists, operatives, and party officials have engaged in an illegal conspiracy involving intimidation, harassment, and fear tactics against No Labels, its donors, and potential candidates.

During a news conference, Dan Webb, a volunteer and lawyer for No Labels, revealed that the organization had filed a formal complaint with the Department of Justice regarding the alleged unlawful conspiracy. Webb emphasized that the group had been targeted by a group of activists, operatives, and party officials who sought to undermine their ballot access in the upcoming 2024 presidential election. The tactics employed by these individuals have grown increasingly brazen, according to Webb.

No Labels has been actively working to secure ballot access across the country in its pursuit of providing Americans with a viable third option in the anticipated rematch between President Biden and former President Donald Trump. Currently, the group is already on the ballot in 14 states and is actively engaged in efforts in 13 others. Their aim is to achieve access in a total of 32 states by the end of the year. If successful, No Labels intends to offer its ballot line to a unity presidential ticket, which would then be responsible for securing access in the final 18 states and the District of Columbia.

Former Democratic Senator Joe Lieberman, a co-founder of No Labels, stressed the importance of offering voters another choice for president in the upcoming election. He asserted that preventing such a choice from being presented to the voters is unjustifiable. Lieberman highlighted the group’s complaint to the Justice Department as evidence of their commitment to ensuring a fair and inclusive electoral process.

In their complaint, No Labels emphasized that opposition to their candidates is acceptable but using intimidation tactics to prevent them from reaching voters is an entirely different matter. Critics of No Labels, including outside Democratic groups and operatives, have argued that launching a unity ticket would only strengthen Trump’s chances of reclaiming the White House. These opponents have publicly stated their intention to exert pressure on the organization, its staff, donors, and potential candidates.

As the 2024 election campaign continues to unfold, No Labels remains dedicated to advocating for a more centrist and inclusive political landscape. The organization’s call for a Justice Department investigation into the alleged conspiracy underscores their commitment to protecting the integrity of the electoral process and ensuring that voters have a wide range of choices available to them.
