Yemeni Forces Strike American Ship in Aden Gulf

According to a representative of the military wing of the rebel Houthi movement, Ansar Allah, named Yahya Sari, a missile strike was carried out on the American vessel Genco Picardy in the Aden Gulf. This information was reported by TASS.

The representative stated that the operation was conducted by the Yemeni naval forces, who used multiple anti-ship missiles.

The attack was carried out as part of the declared fight for independence of the region from the authority of Saudi Arabia.

The representative of the movement reported that the Houthi rebels observed a direct hit on the ship. There is currently no information about casualties or damage to the vessel.

On January 17, it was reported that the United States had removed the Houthi movement from the list of terrorist organizations. The administration of former US President Donald Trump included Ansar Allah in the list of terrorist organizations at the end of his presidential term in January 2021. However, in February, the Biden administration removed the Houthi rebels from this list.

On January 12, John Kirby, the coordinator for strategic communications at the White House National Security Council, stated that the United States is considering the option of reintroducing the Yemeni Houthi rebels, Ansar Allah, into their list of foreign terrorist organizations.

Prior to this, the US, along with the UK, conducted a military operation against the Houthi rebels. On the night of January 12, they attacked over 60 targets at 16 locations belonging to the Houthi movement in Yemen.

Earlier, the US deployed an aircraft carrier strike group to the Aden Strait in response to Houthi attacks.
