Poll Shows Former President Trump Leading President Biden in Georgia Rematch

According to a recent poll conducted by the Atlanta Journal-Constitution (AJC), former President Trump holds a significant lead over President Biden in a potential head-to-head rematch among Georgia voters. The poll reveals that Trump has a 45% to 37% advantage over his successor, with only 7% of voters unwilling to support either candidate. These results come just after Trump secured 51% of the vote in the Iowa Caucus, gaining his first 20 delegates in the race for the Republican nomination.

The survey also highlights Biden’s challenges, including historically low approval ratings and lackluster support among independent voters. Only 37% of registered voters approved of the job he was doing in the White House. Furthermore, nearly three-quarters of voters believed that the U.S. was headed down the “wrong track,” indicating dissatisfaction with Biden’s leadership.

In contrast, the poll shows that Georgia Governor Brian Kemp enjoys high approval ratings among registered voters. Approximately 57% of voters approve of his job performance, with strong support from fellow Republicans and independents. Surprisingly, even a significant portion of Democrats and Black voters view him positively, with around 40% expressing favorable opinions.

Trump’s current eight-point lead in Georgia marks a significant shift since the previous poll conducted in November, where he and Biden were virtually tied. In the 2020 presidential election, Biden narrowly won Georgia by a margin of less than 12,000 votes, a result that differed from Trump’s victory in the state in 2016.

The AJC poll, conducted by the University of Georgia’s School of Public and International Affairs, involved 1,007 registered voters and was carried out from January 3 to 11. It has a margin of error of 3.1 percentage points.

These findings indicate the challenges Biden faces in maintaining support among Georgia voters and shed light on the shifting political landscape in the state. As the Republican primary gains momentum, Trump’s popularity continues to grow, while Biden’s approval ratings remain low. The upcoming months will undoubtedly be crucial for both candidates as they seek to secure their positions in the 2024 election.
