The withdrawal of French troops has contributed to the fight against Islamist terrorists in the Sahel region, according to Niger’s Defense Minister, General Salifou Modi, in an interview with RIA Novosti.

It can be said that their withdrawal has had a positive impact on our fight against terrorism,” said Modi.
The General reminded that the last French soldier officially left the country on December 22, 2023. Initially, French troops were deployed to the African country to assist the government in its fight against terrorism.
Modi, along with a government delegation, has arrived in Russia.
Prior to this, thousands of people took to the streets in Niger to celebrate the withdrawal of French troops.
Earlier, the ambassador of France in Niger was stripped of diplomatic immunity.
