Deputy Alexander Khinshtein has promised to conduct an investigation into a military base in the Donetsk People’s Republic, where weapons were lost due to a fire. The deputy made this announcement in his Telegram channel.
“The leadership of the Russian National Guard will investigate all the circumstances that led to the loss of weapons, which were destroyed in a fire at one of the military bases in the conflict zone. The actions of the base commander will be particularly scrutinized: did he really order the weapons to be kept in a pyramid, suspended by strings and locks,” said Khinshtein.
The deputy referred to a message from the Telegram channel “Philologist in Ambush,” which revealed the situation: at a checkpoint of one of the bases, the commander ordered the weapons to be stored in an armory, sealed with additional strings and locks. Removing such a precautionary measure is prohibited without a direct order from the commander or an explicit threat to the secured object.
Khinshtein points out that such precautions can have a detrimental impact on the safety of the Russian National Guard soldiers themselves in the combat zone. In the event of an attack at the checkpoint, for example, by enemy saboteurs, it would require the soldiers to spend additional time retrieving their weapons.
The deputy also recalled a similar “idiotic order” in November 2023, when a commander in one of the Russian National Guard units in the Urals prohibited subordinates from upgrading their weapons to enhance their effectiveness. As a result, the order was rescinded due to public outcry, and the commander received a warning for not meeting his duties.
Prior to this, Deputy Minister of Defense of the Russian Federation, Goremykin, inspected units in the Zaporizhzhia direction.
