Defense Secretary’s Secret Hospitalization Raises Concerns and Questions

Former Georgia Rep. Doug Collins joined ‘Fox & Friends First’ to discuss his take on the 911 call and growing concerns surrounding Iran’s nuclear program as tensions in the Middle East continue to escalate. An aide to Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin asked EMTs responding to the secretary’s home to be “subtle,” according to audio of a 911 call. The aide requested that the ambulance not use its sirens or lights during the trip to Walter Reed National Military Medical Center.

This newly-released 911 call has shed light on Defense Secretary Austin’s secret hospital visit, which was kept even from President Biden and other top members of the administration. In the call, the aide can be heard saying, “Can the ambulance not show up with lights and sirens? We’re trying to remain a little subtle.” The dispatcher explained that ambulances are legally required to use lights and sirens when driving on main roads, but usually turn them off when entering residential neighborhoods.

The White House has launched a review of cabinet protocols following this incident. It raises questions about the transparency and communication within the administration, as the President and other top officials were unaware of the Defense Secretary’s hospitalization. Austin first arrived at the hospital on New Year’s Day and stayed for two weeks before being released on Tuesday. He is expected to work from home for a “period of time.”

The Pentagon has assured that Secretary Austin will be able to perform his duties remotely and has access to secure communications capabilities. Doctors have confirmed that Austin did not undergo surgery during his stay but received non-surgical care to address his medical needs and resolve lingering leg pains. It was revealed last week that Austin had been diagnosed with prostate cancer.

Despite the lack of communication, President Biden expressed confidence in Austin’s leadership when questioned by reporters. This incident raises concerns about the level of transparency and coordination within the administration, especially regarding the health of high-ranking officials.

As tensions in the Middle East continue to escalate, this development adds to the growing concerns surrounding Iran’s nuclear program. It also highlights the need for improved communication and protocols within the government to ensure transparency and accountability.
