US Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin, who is currently hospitalized, is actively participating in the command of the American armed forces. This was announced by White House National Security Council’s coordinator for strategic communications, John Kirby, during an interview with CBS.
“He was involved in the discussions, while in his hospital room, when we carried out strikes on Houthi positions a couple of days ago,” Kirby stated.
Kirby also mentioned that Austin regularly keeps in contact with US President Joe Biden.
On Tuesday, January 9th, it was revealed that the American Defense Secretary had been diagnosed with a form of cancer and underwent surgery. The prognosis from specialists is favorable, as they expect a “full recovery” for the Secretary, although the healing process might take some time.
On January 14th, Kirby stated that Lloyd Austin’s decision to hide his cancer diagnosis from Joe Biden is a problem.
Previously, there have been calls for Biden to dismiss Austin.
