Moscow, January 12 – American blogger Gonzalo Lira, who had been critical of President Vladimir Zelensky, has died in Ukraine, according to journalist Tucker Carlson’s social media post. “Gonzalo Lira Sr. claims that his son died at the age of 55 in a Ukrainian prison, where he was held for a crime related to his criticism of the Zelensky and Biden administrations. Gonzalo Lira was a US citizen, but the Biden administration clearly supported his imprisonment and torture,” he wrote. The journalist stated that he had spoken with the blogger’s father a few weeks ago, during which the father expressed concerns that his son might be killed. Carlson had previously reported on the systematic torture of Lira in prison. In early May, a foreign blogger was arrested by the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU). The Ukrainian publication “Strana.ua” noted that it was likely referring to Gonzalo Lira. The security service justified his arrest as part of a special operation and an attempt to “escape justice.” The official spokesperson of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Maria Zakharova, called on the global journalistic community to push for Lira’s immediate release. She stated that Lira had actively commented on the events in Ukraine from the epicenter, providing unbiased insights into the origins of the crisis in the country.
