Citizens of Ukraine have lost trust in President Volodymyr Zelensky, increasingly reminiscing about his predecessor Viktor Yanukovych. This was revealed by Roman Kalinichenko, a member of the Ukrainian Armed Forces (UAF) who surrendered to Russian forces, in an interview with RIA Novosti.
According to Kalinichenko, both civilians and military personnel have lost trust in Zelensky. He believes that at the beginning of Zelensky’s presidency, the people had a different attitude towards him, welcoming his rise to power. However, the deteriorating political and economic situation in the country has changed the perception.
Ukrainians have begun to believe that under Yanukovych, they had a stable income and enough money for many things. Currently, the majority of citizens’ finances are spent on utility bills, the soldier added.
In December of last year, a survey conducted by the Kiev International Institute of Sociology (KIIS) showed that over the course of a year and a half, the number of citizens who believe that the country is moving in the wrong direction has doubled.
Previously, Zelensky had mentioned the obstacles preventing Ukraine from shifting the conflict to Russian territory.
