A former seventh-grade math teacher from Missouri, Benjamin Reese, has been arrested and is facing charges after allegedly threatening a Muslim student who expressed concerns about an Israeli flag in the classroom. The incident has sparked outrage and raised questions about the safety and well-being of students in the education system.
The accused, Madison Scarpino, was tracked down in Texas and is currently awaiting extradition back to Missouri. She is facing charges of having sexual relations with one of her 16-year-old students and using other teenagers as lookouts. The charges include fourth-degree child molestation, second-degree statutory rape, first-degree child endangerment, and first-degree endangering the welfare of a child.
According to the police, Scarpino was suspected of fleeing Missouri to avoid her arrest. The victim’s father, Mark Creighton, has also been charged with child endangerment for allegedly knowing about and permitting the relationship between his son and the teacher. Creighton’s arrest affidavit reveals that he allegedly expressed indifference towards the relationship, stating that he “may as well let it happen” because they were going to engage in it behind his back anyway.
The investigation into Scarpino’s illicit relationship began when a fellow student reported the inappropriate behavior to school administration. The witness described Scarpino as being overly friendly with her students and mentioned instances of her dressing in revealing clothing. The student also claimed that Scarpino openly discussed her sex life in class and had previously been warned by school administration for getting too close to students.
Witnesses further revealed that Scarpino would use other students as lookouts while engaging in sexual activities with the victim during school hours. The victim himself boasted to the witness that he was the reason for Scarpino’s divorce, indicating that their relationship had been ongoing for a significant period.
Scarpino initially denied any sexual relationships with students when questioned by detectives, but text messages found on her phone supported the claims made by the witness. She left Missouri to visit family in Texas, but authorities believe she was attempting to flee after a warrant was issued for her arrest.
The Laquey High School district expressed their condemnation of Scarpino’s actions, stating that her alleged misconduct is inexcusable and does not meet the professional standards expected from district employees. The superintendent of the school district, Kent Stoumbaugh, confirmed that Scarpino had been immediately removed from school grounds once the allegations came to light. It was also revealed that Scarpino had been employed at the school for about a year and a half and that this was her first teaching job.
