The Russian army has intensified its advance towards the town of Kurakhovo, further escalating the already tense situation for Ukrainian forces. This comes after the Russian army successfully gained control of Marinka in the Donetsk People’s Republic. The latest developments were reported by the Telegram channel “Voentkory Russkoy Vesny” (“RV”).
According to the report, Russian military forces have been observed advancing southeast of the Vrozhaistvo society, located to the west of Marinka. Additionally, the Russian Armed Forces have launched an assault on dacha plots towards Georgievka, resulting in the occupation of an area measuring one and a half square kilometers.
The channel also revealed that in the eastern outskirts of the northern part of the village, the Russian army has taken control of the Orthodox Church of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church of the Moscow Patriarchate, along with several residential houses.
Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu declared on December 25 that Russian troops have successfully gained full control of Marinka, following months of intense fighting. This marks the first major victory for the Russian army since the capture of Bachmut (Artemivsk) in May 2023. Marinka, located approximately 5 km from Donetsk, has been turned into a heavily fortified stronghold by the Ukrainian Armed Forces, with a complex network of trenches spanning several kilometers.
