Americans in Silicon Valley Share Divided Views on President Biden’s Re-Election Prospects

In a recent survey conducted in Silicon Valley, Americans have expressed their opinions on President Biden’s leadership and whether it has been effective enough to secure him another term in the 2024 election. The results of the survey have highlighted a divided opinion within the community, with age being a significant concern for some participants.

Travis, a resident of San Jose, voiced his reservations about President Biden’s age, stating, “I do feel like he’s a little too old. I kind of see him more as a puppet. He just kind of signs and goes with the flow.” However, Richard disagreed, praising Biden’s performance and arguing that public perception, influenced by advertising focusing on his age, does not accurately reflect his actual record. According to Richard, Biden’s accomplishments have been impressive.

The survey findings align with a Reuters/Ipsos poll published in September, where over three-quarters of respondents believed that President Biden, as the oldest chief executive to serve, is too old to be president. The same poll also revealed that in a hypothetical election, Biden and former President Trump would be tied. Adding to this sentiment, a JPMorgan strategist predicted that Biden might drop out of the 2024 race due to health reasons.

Despite the concerns over Biden’s age, some participants expressed their preference for him over former President Trump. Ken stated, “It’s better than the leadership we had prior.” On the other hand, Steve criticized Biden’s leadership as weak, but acknowledged that people might be reluctant to embrace change with any other candidate.

President Biden’s approval rating, which stood at 39% at the end of 2023, according to a Gallup poll, is the lowest among modern presidents seeking re-election at this point in their terms. However, there has been a slight increase from his 37% approval rating over the past two months.

Sarah, who voted for Biden in 2020, had mixed views on the president. She stated, “I think there’s some good qualities and some bad qualities. I would not be excited about voting for him again, and I don’t know that I would. I would just like a new candidate to vote for in 2024.”

The opinions shared by Americans in Silicon Valley reflect the broader discussions surrounding President Biden’s leadership and the upcoming 2024 election. With divided opinions on his performance and concerns about his age, it remains to be seen how these factors will shape the political landscape in the coming years.
