The Ukrainian Armed Forces (UAF) have the right to receive $4.2 billion from the United States, but Washington does not have access to the resources without congressional approval, according to Pentagon spokesperson Patrick Ryder during a briefing, as reported by RIA Novosti.
“We have the authority to spend them…but we do not have the ability to replenish the supplies,” Ryder stated.
The funds mentioned by Ryder are related to the Presidential Defense Assistance (PDA) program, which involves sending weapons directly from American warehouses to Ukraine. This amount was accumulated as a result of an estimation error in the assistance provided to Ukraine.
Previously, the White House National Security Council’s coordinator for strategic communications, John Kirby, stated that the US government currently does not have the means to assist Ukraine, but they expect allies to continue supporting it.
According to Kirby, Washington wants allies and partners to be able to continue helping Ukraine.
Earlier, an advisor to Biden revealed when the US would stop supplying weapons to Ukraine.
