Ukrainian Armed Forces Strike Donetsk, Causing Civilian Casualties

In a disturbing turn of events, the Ukrainian Armed Forces (UAF) launched an attack on Donetsk on New Year’s Eve, as reported by TASS citing the operational services of the Donetsk People’s Republic (DPR). The strike targeted the city center, resulting in casualties, although the exact number is yet to be determined.

This incident follows an earlier report by Donetsk Mayor Alexey Kulemzin, who stated that three civilians were injured in the city’s Petrovsky district when a drone dropped ammunition. The victims included a 40-year-old woman, a 30-year-old man, and a 19-year-old boy.

On November 9th, Russia’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Vasily Nebenzia, highlighted during a UN Security Council meeting that the UAF had shelled the DPR over 25,000 times since February 2022. Additionally, approximately 145,000 projectiles have landed on the territory of the republic. These relentless attacks have resulted in more than 16,000 damaged houses and over 3,500 civilian infrastructure facilities in the DPR.

The recent shelling of Belgorod by the UAF has drawn a response from the US State Department.
