Israeli Military Unprepared and Ill-Equipped During Hamas Attack, New York Times Investigation Reveals

According to a recent investigation by The New York Times (NYT), the Israeli military was found to be lacking in both forces and weaponry during the Hamas attack on the country on October 7. The report also highlighted issues with their positioning and organization.

Sources within the publication revealed that the Israeli military did not have a plan in place to respond to such an attack. The newspaper noted that the Israel Defense Forces had to improvise and make up for their lack of preparedness. This was confirmed by three high-ranking Israeli military officials.

Yom Tov Samia, a Major General in the Israeli reserves and former head of the Southern Command, believes that the Israel Defense Forces were not adequately trained or equipped for such an operation. Retired General and former national security advisor to Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, Yaakov Amidror, pointed out that the Israeli army “does not prepare for things it deems impossible”.

When asked for comment, the Israel Defense Forces stated that they would address these issues at a later time.

Prior to this, it was reported that the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) had conducted strikes on areas in Lebanon from where the Jewish state was being shelled.

Earlier reports from WSJ revealed the reasons behind Netanyahu’s decision to refrain from preemptive strikes against Hezbollah.
