Jeffrey Coker, a 66-year-old employee of the International Alliance of Theatrical Stage Employees Union (IATSE) No. 197, was installing lights on the convention center’s ceiling when he fell 32 feet to his death. The Tennessee Occupational Safety and Health Administration (TOSHA) is currently investigating the incident to determine the cause of the tragic accident. TOSHA’s investigation will include a thorough examination of the incident location, company records, and procedures. Interviews with management and employees will also be conducted to gather further information.
The tragic event cast a shadow over the convention center, which was set to host a Christian youth conference during the same period. The Gatlinburg Police Department and the IATSE have yet to provide any comment on the incident.
