Russian President Vladimir Putin announced during a flag-raising ceremony for newly commissioned Russian Navy ships that several vessels are currently in different stages of readiness. The fleet expansion includes five frigates, eight corvettes, 13 small missile ships, and over 50 other ships of various classes, according to RIA Novosti.
Putin stated that in Severodvinsk, three Borei-A-class nuclear-powered cruisers and five Yasen-M-class multipurpose nuclear submarines are planned to be built within three years. Additionally, six diesel-powered submarines will be constructed at the Admiralteyskie Verfi shipyard in St. Petersburg.
Previously, it was reported that the Russian Navy will acquire three Borei-A-class nuclear ballistic missile submarines in the coming years. These missile carriers will be transferred to the fleet as part of the state armament program. Alongside the Borei submarines, construction is underway for five Yasen-M-class multipurpose nuclear submarines, including the near-completion “Arkhangelsk.”
Earlier, Russia terminated its agreement with Japan regarding nuclear disarmament cooperation.
