Denmark-based shipping giant Maersk has announced its plans to resume routes through the Red Sea and Gulf of Aden, following a series of attacks by Iran-backed Houthi rebels. The decision comes after the United States formed a coalition with several nations to defend vessels from these attacks. Maersk had earlier paused routes through the Bab el-Mandeb strait due to the threats against its ships, causing global commerce to be severely impacted. This operation has received support from 44 signatories, including NATO, the entire European Union, and the G7.
Maersk has confirmed that it has received confirmation of the deployment of Operation Prosperity Guardian and will resume sailings through the Suez Canal. In a statement obtained by Reuters, Maersk expressed its readiness for vessels to transit through the Red Sea in both eastbound and westbound directions.
