Nikki Haley Gains Ground in New Hampshire Poll, Challenging Former President Trump’s Frontrunner Status

Gov. Chris Sununu, R-N.H., joins ‘Your World’ to discuss alleged ‘momentum’ behind GOP presidential candidate Nikki Haley and former President Trump’s Colorado ruling. GOP presidential candidate Nikki Haley is edging within four percentage points of longtime Republican frontrunner former President Trump in a new New Hampshire poll.

In a recent poll conducted by American Research Group via telephone from December 14-20, 29% of likely New Hampshire Republican primary voters expressed support for Nikki Haley, who previously served as the U.S. ambassador to the United Nations in the Trump administration. Meanwhile, 33% of likely Republican voters in New Hampshire said they would still support former President Trump. Former New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie ranked third with 13% support, while Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis garnered just 6% support. Vivek Ramaswamy received 5% support, and former Arkansas Gov. Asa Hutchinson received 1% support among likely New Hampshire Republican primary voters.

The poll also showed that 12% of respondents were undecided ahead of the primary, and only 1% expressed support for candidates outside of the mainstream GOP contenders. The sample size for the poll included 600 completed telephone interviews with likely Republican primary voters in New Hampshire, consisting of 361 Republicans and 239 undeclared voters or independents.

When analyzing party affiliation, 39% of registered New Hampshire Republicans interviewed expressed support for Trump, while 27% of registered GOP voters favored Nikki Haley. Among undeclared voters, 24% supported Trump, while 33% voiced their support for Haley.

With the Iowa caucuses and the New Hampshire primary approaching, Nikki Haley is emerging as a strong contender against DeSantis as the alternative choice for Republican voters who seek a Trump-like candidate. Haley’s recent surge in polling in New Hampshire, where the primary contest is scheduled for January 23, is noteworthy. She gained the valuable endorsement of New Hampshire Gov. Chris Sununu earlier this month. Meanwhile, DeSantis has been focusing his campaign efforts on Iowa, where he received an endorsement from Gov. Kim Reynolds in November.

Nationwide, a poll released on Sunday indicates that Trump maintains a commanding lead over his GOP rivals, with 69% of Republican primary voters expressing their support for him. DeSantis and Haley trail behind with 12% and 9% support, respectively.

As the 2024 campaign trail unfolds, the competition between Haley and Trump intensifies, capturing the attention of Republican voters and political observers across the country.
