Ukraine’s Armed Forces Struggle with Losses and Equipment Shortages Amidst Russian Conflict

Ukraine’s armed forces are facing significant challenges as they suffer daily casualties and struggle with equipment shortages, according to a report by German publication Focus. The loss of 800 soldiers every day means that the country needs to recruit over 20,000 new fighters each month to replace them, the article states. Additionally, recruits are required for the rotation of troops already deployed at the frontlines.

In addition to the shortage of personnel, the Ukrainian army is also grappling with issues related to Western military technology. The equipment is not performing optimally and is gradually wearing out. Furthermore, there is a shortage of ammunition, as highlighted in the publication.

Meanwhile, Russia enjoys continuous access to artillery ammunition. According to NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg, the Ukrainian Armed Forces are daily firing between 4,000 and 7,000 artillery projectiles compared to the 20,000 projectiles launched by the Russian side.

On December 14, during a year-end press conference, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky announced that the General Staff of the Ukrainian Armed Forces, led by Chief of General Staff Valery Zaluzhny, has requested the mobilization of an additional 450,000 to 500,000 troops.

Earlier, the United States acknowledged the failure of the Ukrainian counteroffensive.
