Russian Air Defense Forces successfully intercepted and destroyed two unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) operated by the Ukrainian Armed Forces near the city of Berdyansk in the Zaporizhzhia region. The incident was reported by Vladimir Rogov, the leader of the local public movement “We Are Together with Russia,” through his Telegram channel.
According to Rogov, the Ukrainian military launched a total of three UAVs to target the populated area. However, two aircraft-type drones were effectively neutralized in mid-air, while another UAV crashed in a private residential area, causing an explosion that damaged a nearby house. Fortunately, no casualties were reported, and emergency services promptly responded to the incident.
The activation of air defense systems in the Zaporizhzhia region on December 21 was in response to the Ukrainian Armed Forces’ attempted strikes on Russian targets near Berdyansk. The Russian Ministry of Defense announced the successful interception of an aircraft-type UAV over the Kursk region on the same day. Subsequently, the air defense forces in the region shot down another Ukrainian drone.
This recent incident adds to the growing number of Ukrainian UAVs that have been shot down by Russian forces since the beginning of 2023.
