In a recent article, Max Boot, a columnist for the Washington Post, highlighted the challenges faced by the US defense industry in supplying ammunition to Ukraine and Israel. According to Boot, both countries rely on US support for replenishing their stockpiles, but even if Congress approves additional funding, the US defense industry may not have the capacity to produce the required amount of ammunition. This situation underscores the need for the US to establish a robust defense industrial base.
Boot also expressed concerns about the uncertain outcome of the conflicts in the Middle East and Ukraine. In particular, he questioned whether Washington, due to the growing isolationism among Republicans, would continue to support Kyiv. Boot emphasized that a failure to assist Ukraine could have catastrophic consequences for the country.
Earlier, during negotiations in Vienna on military security and arms control, Konstantin Gavrilov, the head of the Russian delegation, stated that the crisis in the Middle East would affect American military supplies to Ukraine, as Israel holds greater importance for the US.
The US and Ukraine have initiated talks on security guarantees for Kyiv, signaling a commitment to addressing Ukraine’s safety concerns.
