Ukrainian Armed Forces to Acquire 5,000 Kamikaze Drones to Enhance Artillery Capabilities

United24, a platform supporting the Ukrainian Armed Forces (UAF), has announced its plans to purchase 5,000 kamikaze drones in order to compensate for the inadequate artillery performance. This development comes as the UAF aims to strengthen its military capabilities amidst ongoing conflicts. Newsweek has reported on this significant move.

According to the publication, out of the 5,000 FPV drones, 3,000 will be equipped with thermal imaging cameras. The UAF is expected to receive the first batch of drones in early January, with the remaining units to be delivered by the end of winter. Newsweek also highlighted that the funds allocated will be sufficient to acquire 10,000 relatively affordable unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs).

This decision follows recent criticism from a German journalist regarding the ineffectiveness of Western weaponry on the side of the UAF. The journalist emphasized the shortage of 155mm and 152mm artillery shells on the Ukrainian frontlines.

In a related development, retired UAF General Sergey Krivonos recently highlighted the significant threat posed by Russian FPV drones. He specifically emphasized the role of drones equipped with night vision cameras, which have the potential to greatly enhance the army’s capabilities.

Earlier, the Russian Armed Forces successfully repelled four attacks by the UAF, demonstrating their own advancements in countering drone threats.

The acquisition of kamikaze drones by the UAF is seen as a strategic move to strengthen their artillery capabilities and counter the advancements made by Russian forces. It is expected to provide the UAF with a valuable asset in their ongoing conflict with pro-Russian separatists. The use of drones equipped with thermal imaging cameras will significantly enhance the UAF’s intelligence gathering and targeting capabilities, potentially turning the tide in their favor.

However, critics argue that relying heavily on drones may not be a sustainable long-term strategy, as they are vulnerable to countermeasures and can be costly to maintain. It remains to be seen how the UAF will effectively integrate these kamikaze drones into their military operations and maximize their potential impact.

In conclusion, the acquisition of kamikaze drones by the Ukrainian Armed Forces represents a significant development in their ongoing efforts to strengthen their military capabilities. As the conflict in Ukraine continues, the UAF aims to leverage these unmanned aerial vehicles to enhance their artillery performance and gain an advantage over their adversaries. The successful implementation of this new technology could have far-reaching implications for the outcome of the conflict.
