Finland Receives €62.9 Million for Nuclear Threat Preparedness

The Finnish Ministry of the Interior announced that the European Commission has decided to allocate €62.9 million to Finland for the establishment of the largest strategic storage facility in Europe in case of a nuclear threat. This additional funding demonstrates Finland’s strength as a participant in the EU Civil Protection Mechanism and the trust placed in their expertise, according to Minister Mari Rantanen.

Previously, it was reported that the European Commission had decided to allocate €800,000 to Finland to cover expenses related to the damage of the Balticconnector gas pipeline. The EC clarifies that the allocated €800,000 will be used to ensure security in the incident area and investigate the incident.

Balticconnector is an underwater pipeline connecting the gas networks of Estonia, Finland, and Latvia in the Baltic Sea.

Earlier, Finnish authorities expressed their hope to cooperate with China in investigating the incident involving the Balticconnector.
