Dozens Arrested at Capitol Building for Pro-Palestinian Protest

Dozens of Pro-Palestinian protesters were arrested at the Capitol Building on Dec. 19 after they staged a protest in violation of D.C. Code. The rally, led by activist Linda Sarsour, saw approximately 60 protesters being detained for holding a demonstration inside the U.S. Capitol rotunda. Their demands included a ceasefire in the Israel-Hamas war, as they held signs that read “Stop Arming Israel” and chanted slogans against Israel’s actions.

This incident follows a similar protest last week, where over 40 pro-Palestinian demonstrators were arrested at the Senate Office Building on Capitol Hill, also demanding a cease-fire in Gaza. Capitol Police had prior knowledge of the group’s plan to tour the U.S. Capitol Building and start their protest. As it is against the law to demonstrate inside Congressional Buildings, additional officers were brought in to be prepared for any lawbreaking.

Digital has reached out to Capitol Police for further information regarding the arrests but has yet to receive a response. Republican Representative Marjorie Taylor Green shared her concerns about the protest, questioning if Linda Sarsour, known for her ties to terrorists and progressive Democrats, was leading the pro-Hamas anti-Israel insurrectionists. Green called for the arrest of all protesters and their confinement in the DC gulag.

Linda Sarsour gained prominence as one of the organizers of the 2017 Women’s March following former President Trump’s inauguration. However, in 2020, President Biden’s campaign distanced itself from Sarsour due to concerns of antisemitism following her statements against Israel and allegations of excluding Jewish activists from the movement.

The New York Post also reported that Sarsour ridiculed the plight of hostages held by Hamas terrorists as a result of the October 7 attack on Israel. This attack resulted in the deaths of approximately 1,200 people.
