Vice President Kamala Harris has announced the launch of the Fight for Our Reproductive Freedoms Tour, focusing on the issue of abortion as a key priority in the lead-up to the 2024 election. The tour aims to rally support for the administration’s pro-choice message as President Biden’s team gears up for the upcoming election year.
In a statement, Harris emphasized the importance of protecting a woman’s right to make decisions about her own body, stating, “I will continue to fight for our fundamental freedoms while bringing together those throughout America who agree that every woman should have the right to make decisions about her own body — not the government.” Harris also shared a video message on social media to amplify her message.
Highlighting the urgency of the issue, Harris pointed out that there is currently a widespread assault on women’s reproductive rights across the nation. She vowed to travel the country in the new year to organize, build community, and fight back against these attacks. “Because when we fight, we win,” she declared.
The Fight for Our Reproductive Freedoms Tour is set to commence in Wisconsin on January 22nd, coinciding with the 51st anniversary of the landmark Supreme Court decision in Roe v. Wade.
This nationwide effort follows Harris’s previous Fight for Our Freedoms College Tour, which aimed to mobilize young people in the ongoing fight for fundamental freedoms and rights. The White House highlighted causes such as reproductive freedom, gun safety laws, climate action, voting rights, LGBTQ+ equality, and teaching America’s full story as key focuses of the college tour.
Harris’s emphasis on reproductive rights comes at a time when former President Donald Trump is reportedly polling ahead of President Biden in hypothetical election matchups, including in key battleground states. When asked about these polls, Harris acknowledged the need for candidates to effectively communicate their accomplishments and values in a democratic society with free and fair elections. “We’re going to have to earn our re-elect,” she stated.
The Fight for Our Reproductive Freedoms Tour is expected to play a significant role in shaping the national conversation leading up to the 2024 election. Harris’s focus on the protection of reproductive rights aligns with the Democratic Party’s stance on the issue, further highlighting the ideological differences between the two major political parties.
