Ukraine’s Armed Forces to Increase Production of Barraging Ammunition Amidst Shell Shortage

Ukraine’s Armed Forces are taking measures to address the shortage of artillery shells by ramping up the production of barraging ammunition. The Deputy Minister of Defense, Ivan Gavryliuk, announced this in an interview with “BBC Ukraine”. The issue of the shortage of shells has been a persistent problem in Ukraine, and the country has decided to tackle it by establishing a robust production system for unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs).

In addition to this, Ukraine is also attempting to increase the production of ammunition of Soviet-era design. Gavryliuk expressed optimism that Ukraine will be able to meet the demand for 155-millimeter caliber shells.

The urgency of addressing the shortage of shells is highlighted by reports from CNN, which revealed that Ukrainian troops are being forced to conserve ammunition due to the intense attacks from the Russian Armed Forces. Western analysts estimate that the Russian army’s attacks are 5-7 times more intense compared to the Ukrainian Armed Forces.

According to assessments by Western officials, Ukraine will first exhaust its stocks of long-range missiles, followed by air defense ammunition, artillery shells, anti-tank, and anti-aircraft ammunition.

This dire situation has led commanders in Ukraine to consider arming soldiers with shovels, underscoring the severity of the shortage. The Ukrainian government and military are faced with the challenge of addressing this critical issue to ensure the effectiveness of their defense capabilities.
