Colorado Man Sentenced to Life in Prison for Fatally Stabbing Brother with Sword

A Colorado man has been sentenced to life in prison after being found guilty of first-degree murder in the death of his brother. Kenneth Sargent, 62, was convicted for stabbing his brother, Roy Sargent, through the heart with a sword during an argument on June 26, 2021. The sentencing took place on December 19, with Kenneth receiving a life sentence without the possibility of parole.

According to a witness, the dispute between the brothers occurred on the front porch of a home in Westminster. Kenneth allegedly pulled out a large sword and began attacking Roy, ultimately stabbing him in the heart and arm. The neighbor who witnessed the incident called 911 and provided aid to Roy, who unfortunately lost consciousness. Despite being transported to a local hospital, Roy succumbed to his injuries.

District Attorney Brian Mason expressed his thoughts on the case, stating, “This was a horrific and tragic case. The defendant used a sword — in broad daylight — to take the life of his brother.” Kenneth had pleaded not guilty by reason of insanity to the first-degree murder charge.

Mason acknowledged the efforts of his team in handling this difficult case and extended his condolences to the family, acknowledging the unimaginable pain and suffering they have endured.

This news serves as a reminder of the devastating consequences that can arise from domestic disputes. The incident highlights the need for effective conflict resolution and the importance of seeking help in times of escalating tensions.
