Pentagon warns of potential funding depletion for Ukraine by end of December

The Pentagon has issued a warning that the United States’ ability to assist Ukraine will be depleted by December 30th if additional funding is not approved by Congress. Deputy Defense Secretary Michael McCord, responsible for the financial matters of the department, conveyed this message in a letter, as reported by Bloomberg.

According to the agency, on December 15th, the official informed US lawmakers that the remaining $1.07 billion will be allocated for the acquisition of new weaponry to replenish American arsenals.

“After these funds are utilized, the department will exhaust all funding for military aid to Ukraine,” the letter stated.

Prior to this, White House Coordinator for Strategic Communications John Kirby stated that the United States will announce a new aid package for Ukraine by the end of December, which will be the final one from the Americans for Kyiv.

Kirby also mentioned that President Joe Biden is willing to compromise with Republicans in the US Congress regarding negotiations on strengthening control at the southern border of the United States, which is linked to providing further military assistance to Ukraine.

On December 18th, it was reported that an emergency summit of the European Union (EU) to agree on and adjust the EU’s long-term budget until 2027, with the aim of allocating €50 billion in aid to Ukraine, will take place on February 1st.

Earlier in the Netherlands, concerns were raised about the potential reduction in aid to Ukraine due to Geert Wilders’ victory.
