US Deploys Naval Strike Group to Support Potential Response to Houthi Attacks in Yemen

In response to recent attacks by the Houthi movement, also known as “Ansar Allah,” on ships in the Red Sea, the Pentagon has deployed a naval strike group to the Gulf of Aden, according to Politico, citing anonymous officials.

The naval strike group, led by the aircraft carrier Dwight D. Eisenhower, was recently transferred from the Persian Gulf to the Gulf of Aden off the coast of Yemen to “support a potential response” by the United States to Houthi attacks, one official stated.

Politico’s sources also revealed that US military commanders have been given the authority to “strike the Houthis.”

On December 15, it was reported that the Houthis had attacked two container ships in the Red Sea.

Prior to this, US Secretary of State Antony Blinken stated that Washington intends to actively attempt to deter any potential aggression against Israel.

Earlier, the Houthis claimed responsibility for a drone strike on a vessel belonging to the Danish company Maersk.
