Nikki Haley Slams Media’s Obsession with Trump, Focuses on Issues that Matter to Voters

GOP presidential candidate Nikki Haley responded on Sunday to pressure to love or hate former President Trump, claiming that typical voters care more about issues. Coming off a key endorsement by New Hampshire Gov. Chris Sununu, Haley criticized the media’s preoccupation with Trump during a sit-down interview with ABC News’ Jonathan Karl that aired on ABC’s “This Week” on Sunday.

Haley expressed frustration with the media’s constant focus on Trump, stating, “You guys are exhausting. You’re exhausting in your obsession with him. The thing is, normal people aren’t obsessed with Trump like you guys are. The normal people care about the fact that they can’t afford things. They feel like their freedoms are being taken away. They think government is too big.”

Haley, who served as Trump’s U.S. ambassador to the United Nations, emphasized the need for a new generational leader who focuses on addressing the concerns of everyday Americans. She argued that people are less interested in dissecting every word and tweet from a politician and more interested in how their lives will be improved.

The interview also touched on Trump’s campaign promises and his record. Sununu, who was interviewed alongside Haley, criticized Trump for not fulfilling certain promises, such as building the wall and securing the southern border, achieving fiscal responsibility, and draining the swamp. Sununu argued that Trump often avoids discussing these issues and instead focuses on stirring up controversy.

Haley acknowledged both areas of agreement and disagreement with Trump, highlighting the good economy during his presidency but expressing concerns about the national debt and his handling of national security. She positioned herself as a candidate who recognizes Trump’s strengths but believes that a country in chaos cannot survive four more years of the same.

In her quest for the GOP endorsement, Haley aims to present herself as a leader who prioritizes the pressing issues that affect everyday Americans. She believes that Trump was the right president at the right time but emphasizes the need for stability and progress moving forward.

As the 2024 campaign trail heats up, Haley’s remarks provide insight into her stance on Trump and her vision for the future of the country.
