Israeli Intelligence Chief Holds Talks with Qatar and Egypt to Secure Hostage Release

The Israeli government has given the green light for the head of Mossad, David Barna, to engage in negotiations with Qatar and Egypt to secure the release of hostages, according to sources from Israel’s 12th TV channel, as reported by RIA Novosti.

On December 17th, Barna presented the outlines of a potential deal for further hostage release to Israel’s political leadership and received approval to work out the details with the mediators, Qatar and Egypt.

Sources claim that Israel must present a “very creative proposal” that would surprise the leaders of the Hamas Palestinian movement and break the deadlock. Additionally, there must be a balance between what Israel demands and what it is willing to offer.

Previously, Reuters reported, citing sources, that Israel and the Hamas Palestinian movement were open to discussing a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip.

Hamas is willing to resume negotiations on the exchange of hostages in the Gaza Strip, but only after the cessation of hostilities and the withdrawal of Israeli Armed Forces from the Palestinian enclave. Yesterday, Hamas did not rule out the resumption of talks on a phased exchange of hostages.

Earlier, Russians who had left the Gaza Strip shared their experiences of living in a conflict zone.
