Court Sentences Russian Soldiers for Bribery in Attempt to Avoid Special Military Operation

In a recent development, the Volgograd Garrison Court has issued verdicts against five military servicemen who were found guilty of offering bribes to the acting commander of their battalion in an attempt to evade participation in a special military operation. This news was reported by the newspaper “Kommersant.”

During the sentencing, the court took into account the motions filed by the military prosecutor’s office, requesting a reclassification of charges for four of the defendants to a less severe offense. However, for the fifth defendant, the state prosecution did not make such a request. Consequently, he received the harshest punishment – two years of imprisonment in a general regime colony and a fine of 750,000 rubles, which is five times the amount of the bribe.

The remaining defendants received suspended sentences and fines ranging from 100,000 to 750,000 rubles.

It is worth noting that the officer accused of accepting bribes actively cooperated with the Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation, and no information about criminal charges against him has been provided by the publication.

In a separate incident, a court in Yekaterinburg had previously arrested Igor Dubrovin, the former acting deputy chairman of the government of the Zabaykalsky Krai, for a period of ten days.

Earlier reports indicated that Russian paratroopers and special forces were being trained in the use of NATO weapons.
