Cairo, 16th December – Emir of Kuwait Nawaf Al-Ahmed Al-Jaber Al-Sabah has passed away at the age of 86, as announced on state television by Minister of the Emir’s Diwan Affairs, Mohammed Abdullah Al-Mubarak Al-Sabah. “We mourn the Emir Nawaf Al-Ahmed Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, who passed away on Saturday,” said the minister. It was reported at the end of November that the Emir had been hospitalized due to health issues.
Nawaf Al-Ahmed Al-Jaber Al-Sabah was born on 25th June 1937 in Kuwait. He was the sixth son of Sheikh Ahmed Al-Sabah, the tenth Emir of Kuwait who ruled from 1921 to 1950. Nawaf ascended to the Kuwaiti throne in September 2020, following the death of his half-brother Sabah IV. Upon the current Emir’s demise, the power is set to be inherited by his younger brother, 83-year-old Crown Prince Mishal Al-Ahmed Al-Jaber Al-Sabah. The government has already declared him as the new Emir.
